He is the founder and chairman of Medanta – The Medicity, a multi-specialty medical institute located in Gurugram, Haryana. Trehan is known for his contributions to cardiac surgery in India and has performed thousands of open-heart procedures over the course of his career.

Early Life and Education

Naresh Trehan was born in Delhi, India. He pursued his medical education at King George's Medical College (now King George's Medical University) in Lucknow. After completing his initial training in India, he moved to the United States for advanced surgical training.

Trehan trained and practiced at institutions including the New York University Medical Center, where he gained experience in cardiovascular surgery. During his time in the United States, he developed expertise in complex cardiac procedures.

Medical Career

Upon returning to India in the late 1980s, Trehan played a significant role in advancing cardiac surgery in the country. He was associated with Escorts Heart Institute and Research Centre (now Fortis Escorts Heart Institute), where he contributed to the expansion of cardiac care services.

In 2009, he founded Medanta – The Medicity in Gurugram. The institution was conceived as a large multi-super-specialty hospital integrating clinical care, research, and education under one campus. Under his leadership, the hospital has developed specialized departments in cardiology, cardiac surgery, neuroscience, oncology, and organ transplantation.

Trehan has been involved in performing and supervising a wide range of cardiac procedures, including coronary artery bypass grafting, valve replacement surgeries, and minimally invasive cardiac interventions.
